Emergency Equipment

Emergency equipment is the gear that should be available at a second home for emergencies — power outages, fires, injuries, or other situations that can arise at a property that is often in a remote location.

What should be at the property?

• Fire safety: Fire extinguisher, smoke detectors, fire blanket
• First aid: First aid kit with plasters, bandages, and pain relief
• Power outage: Torches, candles, matches, batteries
• Winter: Shovel, salt, warm blankets
• Contact list: Emergency numbers, nearest hospital, fire station

Check emergency equipment regularly

Batteries expire, fire extinguishers lose pressure, and first aid supplies go out of date. Add an emergency equipment check as a regular task at the start of each season.
